Growing Healthy Youth
Our youth programs for pre-k through 6th grade meet throughout the year in our gardens and at local schools. Participants learn how food grows, how to care for and harvest their own food, and how to prepare delicious, fresh foods.

We also offer field trips to our gardens for pre-K through high school students.

Creating Space for Education & Community
Downtown Greens offers programs, workshops, and events for children and adults that cultivate environmental literacy and community. We offer monthly informational gardening programs in partnership with the Central Rappahannock Regional Library, as well as nature walks at our Belman Road campus. We also occasionally host programs presented by other organizations. Keep an eye on our upcoming programs for details!
Connection to Nature
We create spaces for people to connect with nature.

Our downtown campus consists of 2.8 acres of sustainably maintained, park-like urban gardens protected by conservation easements. The Lower Garden is part landscaped pleasure garden, as well as being a natural oasis right in downtown Fredericksburg. The Upper Garden is the site of our Education Garden, Take What You Need Community Solidarity Plot, as well as numerous native food bearing trees, shrubs, vines, and perennials.

Through incredible community support, we were able to purchase and preserve 56 acres of working agriculture fields, old growth forest, and wetlands, creating our Belman Road campus.Â
Volunteers
Maintaining 58 acres of greenspaces takes a lot of work! Downtown Greens relies on help from volunteers to keep our gardens looking beautiful, well-maintained, and to keep them safe for visitors.Â

We have weekly, open volunteer garden hours and we welcome help from school groups and community organizations on prearranged services days. Â

The Down Home Ball!
Our annual fundraiser, the Down Home Ball, is an opportunity to gather in community with good music and good food to celebrate and support the work of Downtown Greens.Â
​
This year's Ball will be on Saturday, November 7th at Brock's Riverside Grill. We're happy to say that Ladia will be providing the music for the evening.Â
​
There will be a silent auction the night of the Ball with items from the Fred Nats, Trolley Tours of Fredericksburg, the James Monroe Museum, Orofino, Possum-bilities, Courtyard Marriott, Meadows Farms, George Washington Foundation, Agora Coffee, A. Smith Bowman Distillery, Frame Designs Gallery, Sprelly, Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, Washington Heritage Museums, Wine & Design, and more!
